Free Business Account for Dubai Entrepreneurs: What to Check

Yes. A newly licensed Dubai entrepreneur can apply for a business account with no monthly fee and no minimum balance. The catch is that “free” usually describes the account’s package charge, not every service attached to it. Transfers, cheques or cash deposits may cost extra.

The lowest monthly fee will not help if the account cannot handle your payments. Start with your business model.

What does a free business account actually include?

Before comparing banks, separate three claims:

  • No opening fee: No account setup charge. You may still need to deposit funds or pay for later services.
  • No minimum balance: You need not maintain a stated monthly average. A subscription may still be charged.
  • No monthly fee: There is no recurring package or maintenance fee on the selected plan. Individual transactions can still carry charges.

A fee may be conditionally waived while you maintain a specified balance. Check the bank’s schedule of charges before choosing a plan.

Which accounts can Dubai entrepreneurs compare?

These examples are drawn from official bank pages accessed 25 September 2026. They illustrate different pricing models; inclusion does not mean a particular founder will be approved.

Bank planPublished monthly fee and balance termsFounder’s trade-off
Mbank Basic BusinessNo monthly fee or minimum monthly average balance. No minimum initial deposit is listed.Currently AED-only; check charges for transfers, cheques and cash handling.
Mashreq NEO BIZ ProAED 99 per month; no minimum balance.Advertises free local fund transfers and multi-currency options.
Wio Business EssentialAED 99 per month.Advertises 10 free local transfers each month and multi-currency access.
Emirates NBD ConnectAED 249 monthly maintenance fee; no minimum monthly average balance.Online-focused, with limited branch access and higher transaction fees according to the bank.

The banks publish these terms on their product and pricing pages. Confirm the current tariff before applying.

What about no monthly maintenance fee with a balance condition? Emirates NBD’s Proprietor package lists no monthly maintenance fee, but requires an AED 50,000 monthly average balance and lists an AED 250 fall-below fee. That differs from an account you can maintain at zero balance.

Mbank shows why checking individual services matters. Its Basic Business fee schedule lists AED 52.50 for a branch teller cash deposit. It also says issuance of the free first cheque book requires a minimum statement balance of AED 10,000. An entrepreneur receiving mostly digital AED payments may weigh those features differently from a retailer depositing cash often.

Pick by how you will use the account

Ask yourself four questions:

  1. Will customer payments and supplier bills be mainly in AED or another currency?
  2. How many local and international transfers will you make each month?
  3. Will you need cash deposits, cheques, cards or payroll services?
  4. Can you reliably meet a balance condition every month?

Estimate a typical month’s cost. Transfer allowances may make a paid plan worthwhile for your business.

Can a new mainland or free zone company qualify?

Yes, some banks accept both. Mbank says companies registered in the UAE with a valid trade licence, including free zone companies, can apply. It also accepts applications from new trade licence holders. This establishes the ability to apply, not automatic approval.

No trading history? Explain your services, expected customers and suppliers, and initial funding. Ask whether a contract or quotation would help the bank understand your planned activity. Never invent invoices.

Confirm who has banking authority

Check the memorandum of association, amendments, board resolution and any power of attorney. If two partners must sign jointly, an application naming one sole signatory may be delayed.

What documents should you prepare?

Requirements depend on the bank and the company’s legal form. Mbank lists a valid trade licence, memorandum and applicable amendments, incorporation certificate, board resolution, shareholders’ passports and Emirates IDs, address proof and bank statements. Mashreq lists similar core documents and says bank statements are required if applicable. Both pages were accessed 25 September 2026.

Application checklist

  • Valid mainland or free zone trade licence.
  • Incorporation and ownership documents, including relevant amendments.
  • Board resolution or power of attorney if needed for the signatory.
  • Requested passport and Emirates ID copies.
  • Proof of business address and current contact details.
  • Short business profile covering activity, customers, suppliers and countries involved.
  • Expected turnover, currencies and payment methods.
  • Evidence of the initial source of funds, if requested.
  • Existing statements or trading records, if applicable.

Check names and ownership percentages. If the new company has no statements, explain that clearly.

Why does KYC sometimes slow the application?

Know-your-customer (KYC) checks help the bank identify the people controlling the company and understand its expected transactions. The UAE Central Bank’s due diligence guidance addresses beneficial owners, source of funds and expected account activity. The guidance took effect on 7 November 2025; the page was accessed 25 September 2026.

Be precise about the first deposit. If it will come from an owner’s savings, be ready to explain its origin and supply evidence if requested. If another person will fund the company, disclose that relationship. A mismatch between the licensed activity and projected transactions can also prompt questions.

How do entrepreneurs apply?

  1. Shortlist plans offering the currencies and services you need.
  2. Read current fees for maintenance, transfers, cash, cards and balance shortfalls.
  3. Check eligibility for your licence and activity.
  4. Confirm signatories and prepare consistent company documents.
  5. Apply through the bank’s official channel and answer KYC questions accurately.
  6. Respond to requests for clarification or further records.
  7. Check the issued account terms before your first payment.

How long can opening take?

It depends on the bank and the application. Wio says applicants can get up and running in three working days, but that published onboarding indication is not a guarantee for every founder. Missing documents, complex ownership or additional KYC checks may take longer.

If you want help preparing documents or comparing published bank requirements, contact KIF Consultancy. A clear application improves your readiness; only the bank can approve and open the account.
